Fralick's two homers power Auburn past UCF
Chase Fralick hit two home runs and drove in three runs to lead the Auburn Tigers to a 9-3 victory over the UCF Knights in an NCAA baseball regional elimination game Sunday at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Alabama.
Fralick, who went 2-for-3, was part of a powerful offensive display for Auburn (40-20). Mason McCraine went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Ethin Bingaman also had two hits, including a solo homer. Cade Belyeu and Taylor Belza each added a solo home run for the Tigers. Starter Alex Petrovic pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) and five hits while striking out six. Ryan Hetzler threw three scoreless innings of relief, striking out five to close out the game.
The Knights (32-23) were led by DeAmez Ross, who went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two RBIs. Zak Skinner also hit a solo home run for UCF.
UCF jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings, starting with a solo home run from Ross in the top of the first. Auburn's offense came alive in the bottom of the third when McCraine and Fralick hit solo home runs to tie the score. Bingaman gave the Tigers a 3-2 lead with a solo shot in the fourth. After Skinner's homer cut the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the sixth, Auburn answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning with home runs from Belyeu and Belza to extend the lead. Fralick added his second home run in the seventh, and the Tigers tacked on two more runs in the eighth for the final margin.
