Stats - Finn Allen smashes fastest T20 World Cup hundred

It was about as one-sided as a contest featuring two top teams could be, New Zealand beating South Africa by nine wickets in the men's T20 World Cup semi-final in Kolkata with 43 balls left in the game. In terms of numbers that stood out, too, it was one-sided: all Finn Allen.

33 - Balls that Finn Allen needed for his hundred against South Africa in the semi-final in Kolkata, the quickest in the tournament. He bettered the previous record by Chris Gayle - in 47 balls against England in 2016 - by 14 balls.

Allen's hundred is also the fastest in all T20 World Cup matches (men or women). The previous fastest was off 38 balls by Deandra Dottin against South Africa in 2010.

Allen's is also the fastest hundred for New Zealand in T20Is. The previous fastest was by Glenn Phillips, off 46 balls against West Indies in 2020.

2 - Number of hundreds in T20Is to have come quicker than Allen's: Estonia's Sahil Chauhan scored the fastest, off 27 balls, against Cyprus in 2024, followed by Turkey's Muhammad Fahad against Bulgaria in 2025 off 29 deliveries.

Allen's hundred is the joint-fastest for a Full Member team in T20Is, alongside Sikandar Raza's against Gambia in 2023.

The 33-ball century is also the fastest scored against a Full Member team. The previous fastest was off 35 balls by David Miller against Bangladesh, and Rohit Sharma against Sri Lanka - both in 2017. Allen's innings is also one of four T20I hundreds with a 300-plus strike rate.

3 - T20I hundreds for Allen, the joint-highest for New Zealand alongside Colin Munro. Allen is also only the third batter to score a hundred for New Zealand at the men's T20 World Cup.

100* - Allen became the first to score a hundred in a knockout match at the men's T20 World Cup. Tillakaratne Dilshan's unbeaten 96 against West Indies in the 2009 semi-final was the previous highest.

19 - Balls in which Allen brought up his fifty, the fastest in a men's T20 World Cup knockout. The previous fastest was off 20 balls, by Yuvraj Singh against Australia in the semi-final in 2007.

Allen's fifty is also the fastest for New Zealand at the men's T20 World Cup, bettering the 22-ball fifty by Phillips against Canada earlier this tournament.

18 - Boundaries hit by Allen are the joint-highest in a men's T20 World Cup innings. Brendon McCullum also hit 18 against Bangladesh in Pallekele in 2012.

Allen's 18 boundaries fetched him 88 runs, the joint-highest boundary runs in an innings at the men's T20 World Cup, alongside the number for Gayle, when he scored 117 against South Africa in 2007.

20 - Sixes that Allen has hit in this World Cup, including the eight on Wednesday. He now holds the record for the most sixes hit in an edition of the T20 World Cup, surpassing the 19 by Shimron Hetmyer, also in this edition.

463 - Partnership runs between Allen and Tim Seifert in this World Cup, the most by any pair in any men's T20I series (or tournament). The pair also completed 1000 partnership runs in T20Is on Wednesday.

Their partnership run rate is the highest among the 42 pairs with 1000-plus runs in men's T20Is, and the fifth-highest in terms of average.

1 - New Zealand registered their first win against South Africa at the men's T20 World Cup, having lost all their previous five meetings. This result leaves Bangladesh as the only team to have played five or more matches in this competition against an opponent without a win.

New Zealand, however, have a perfect record against South Africa in knockout matches across all men's ICC events, having now won all four.

13.48 - New Zealand's run rate during the chase against South Africa is the second-highest by any team in a 150-plus total at the men's T20 World Cup. Netherlands made 193 for 4 in just 13.5 overs at a run rate of 13.95 against Ireland in 2014.

84 for 0 - New Zealand's total in the powerplay, their highest at the men's T20 World Cup, and the fifth-highest for any team. New Zealand went past the 78 for 0 they made against UAE last month.

It is also the highest in a knockout game in this competition's history, comfortably surpassing England's 67 for 0 against New Zealand in the 2016 semi-final.

55 - Marco Jansen's score against New Zealand is the joint-highest for South Africa while batting at No. 7 or lower in men's T20Is. It is also the third-highest score while batting at No. 7 or lower at men's T20 World Cups.

Jansen put on a 73-run partnership with Tristan Stubbs for the sixth wicket, the highest for South Africa for the sixth or lower wicket in men's T20Is.

2 - Matches lost by South Africa across the 2024 and 2026 editions of the men's T20 World Cup. Their eight-match winning run in 2024 was halted in the final against India, while their seven successive wins (including a Super Over win) in 2026 ended in the semi-final.

Wednesday's defeat was also South Africa's first in this competition while batting first, since losing to Australia in 2021. They had been unbeaten in nine matches between those two defeats, winning eight of them.
