India and England scored 499 runs in 40 overs between them at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday night in their T20 World Cup semi-final, and were separated only by seven runs. The stars of the show were Sanju Samson and Jacob Bethell. Here are the numbers they left behind.

1 & 2 - India's total is the highest by any team in a knockout (or a playoff) match in T20Is. England's 246 for 7 ranks second on the same list.

The previous highest was 244 for 4 by Italy against Romania in 2024, during the Group A final of the Sub-Regional Europe Qualifier.

Before Thursday, only one team had scored 200-plus in a T20 World Cup knockout - 205 for 4 by West Indies against Australia in the semi-final of the 2012 edition.

6 - Number of 250-plus totals for India in T20Is, twice as many as any other team. India's totals over 250 are also the most for any team in all T20s, surpassing Sunrisers Hyderabad's five.

4 - Final appearances for India in the men's T20 World Cup, having previously qualified in 2007, 2014 and 2024, the most by any team. Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and England have each reached the final three times.

India are also the first defending champions of the men's T20 World Cup to reach the final. Only two teams before India have reached the final in consecutive editions of this competition - Pakistan (2007 and 2009) and Sri Lanka (2012 and 2014).

15 - Men's ICC tournaments where India have qualified for the final, the most by any team, going past Australia (14). India have reached the finals of the ODI and T20 World Cups four times each, the Champions Trophy five times, and the World Test Championship twice.

499 - Runs scored by India and England on Thursday, making it the second-highest aggregate for a T20I. The highest is 517 runs between South Africa and West Indies in Centurion in 2023.

The 499 runs are also the most scored in a T20 World Cup match, surpassing the 459 by England and South Africa in 2016, also at Wankhede.

105 - Bethell's score against India is the highest by any batter in a men's T20 World Cup knockout, going past Finn Allen's 100* against South Africa on Wednesday. Bethell's 105 is also the fifth-highest individual score in a knockout (or a playoff) match in men's T20Is.

22y 133d - Bethell's age coming into this game, making him the third-youngest all-format centurion in international cricket. Only Brian Bennett (21y 324d) and Ahmed Shehzad (22y 127d) completed their sets at a younger age.

Bethell's maiden hundreds in first-class, List A and T20 all came at the international stage, making him the first such player.

46 - Balls Bethell took for his hundred, the second-fastest in the men's T20 World Cups, behind Finn Allen's 33-ball hundred against South Africa on Thursday. Bethell took only 19 balls for his fifty, the fastest for England in this competition, bettering the 21-ball effort by Will Jacks against Italy last month.

0 - India batters to score more in a T20 World Cup knockout than Samson's 89 against England. Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 89 against West Indies in the 2016 semis, also at Wankhede.

19 - Sixes that India hit on Thursday, the joint-most by any team in a T20 World Cup innings. Netherlands against Ireland in 2014 in Sylhet and West Indies against Zimbabwe also at Wankhede in this World Cup are other instances of 19 sixes in an innings.

7 - Sixes hit off Jofra Archer on Thursday. These are the joint-most sixes conceded by any bowler in a men's T20 World Cup game. Stuart Broad also conceded seven sixes against India in 2007, while Xavier Doherty suffered the same fate against West Indies in 2012.

Archer conceded 61 runs in his four overs, the most by an England bowler in a men's T20 World Cup game.

64 - Runs Varun Chakravarthy conceded, the joint-second-most for India in a men's T20I. These are also the most conceded by an India bowler and joint-second by anyone in a men's T20 World Cup game.

73 - Total number of boundaries that India and England hit, the most in a T20 World Cup game and the third-most in any T20I match. As many as 360 runs came through boundaries, the joint third-highest for any T20I and the first instance of 300-plus boundary runs in a T20 World Cup game. Only four out of the 40 overs on Thursday did not record a boundary hit by the batters.

The two teams hit a total of 34 sixes, another T20 World Cup record that fell on Thursday and the joint fourth-most hit in any T20I.

88 - Total sixes that India have hit in this World Cup so far, the most by any team in any T20I series or tournament. The previous highest was 78 sixes by Bulgaria during a tri-series they hosted in 2025.
