Vaibhav Sooryavanshi breaks Chris Gayle's record for most sixes in an IPL season

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi brought up a 16-ball half-century BCCI

65 Sixes for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in IPL 2026 - the most by any batter in a T20 tournament. He broke the record held by Chris Gayle with 59 sixes in IPL 2012. Gayle had taken 456 balls for his record. Sooryavanshi took 266.

16 Balls that Sooryavanshi took to complete his fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) - the joint-fastest by any batter in IPL playoffs (or knockouts). Suresh Raina also had a 16-ball fifty against Kings XI Punjab in the Qualifier 2 in 2014.

242.85 Sooryavanshi's strike rate this season, where he scored 680 runs from 15 innings. He is the first batter with 600-plus runs in a T20 tournament while striking at 200 or more. Rilee Rossouw's 192.28 is the next best, having scored 623 runs during the 2022 T20 Blast.

12 Sixes by Sooryavanshi from just 29 balls in the Eliminator against SRH - the joint most by any Indian batter in an IPL innings. He equalled his own record, which he set against SRH in Jaipur earlier this season.

Sooryavanshi's 12 sixes are also the most by any batter in an IPL playoff (or knockout) game, going past Shubman Gill, who struck ten sixes against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 in 2023.

Sooryavanshi's first ten sixes came in just 24 balls, the fewest deliveries taken by any batter in the IPL. Gayle hit his first ten sixes in 27 balls against Pune Warriors during his 175* in 2013.

8 out of Sooryavanshi's 12 sixes on Wednesday came in the powerplay, the most by a batter in this phase in an IPL innings. Five batters have hit seven sixes in an innings before, including Sooryavanshi against SRH earlier this season in Jaipur.
