Trey Watts suspended for first four games of 2015

ST. LOUIS -- Rams running back Trey Watts has been suspended for the first four games of the 2015 season for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy, the NFL announced Friday.

Watts can continue to practice and work out with the team through the offseason, preseason practice and preseason games. If he is still on the roster, he is eligible to return to the active roster Oct. 5 after the Rams play the Arizona Cardinals the previous day.

The son of former Oklahoma politician and football player J.C. Watts, Trey Watts made the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Tulsa in 2014.

Watts was mostly limited to a special-teams role as the team's fourth running back but did manage seven carries for 30 yards as a rookie.

With Todd Gurley, Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham in place, Watts already figured to be competing for a roster spot in this year's training camp.
