DETROIT -- The Detroit Lions have hired former Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier as a personnel executive, league sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Grier was fired by the Dolphins in October, a move that Miami announced was a mutual decision between Grier and the organization to part ways.
Grier had been with the Dolphins organization since 2000, serving as the team's general manager since 2016.
The Dolphins hadn't reached the playoffs for seven consecutive seasons before Grier took over as GM in 2016 but were able to reach the wild-card round in his first season. Miami recorded five winning seasons and three playoff appearances during Grier's tenure but failed to win a postseason game.
Through the years, Grier said he developed an appreciation for Lions GM Brad Holmes and his ability to turn around Detroit's franchise. He also respected Holmes' work to improve front office diversity while strengthening the pipeline for future Black GMs by creating opportunities.
"Brad, first of all, is a tremendous person. That's always how he's carried himself from literally when he was an area scout when we met years ago on the road," Grier told ESPN of Holmes last year. "He's such a presence because he's such a good person with his work ethic and how he works.
"He treats everyone like he's known you for years and to have that kind of skill is underrated because everything in this sport is a relationship business and he's fantastic at creating relationships with people and it helps him get information and find out about people and get to know people."
