Burley: No guarantee for Tottenham to stay up on final day (1:41)

Craig Burley looks ahead to the Premier League final day relegation battle between Tottenham and West Ham. (1:41)

After 90 minutes of angst and anguish, Joao Palhinha's scrappy first-half goal was enough to see Tottenham avoid relegation as they beat Everton on the final day, while their bitter rivals Arsenal celebrated their Premier League title with victory at Crystal Palace.

Roberto De Zerbi's team knew they only needed a point in north London, but in getting all three they earned their first Premier League win at home since the start of December. But as Spurs breathed a sigh of relief, Arsenal lifted the Premier League trophy at the opposite end of the capital.

- Tottenham salvage Premier League status, avoid relegation

Tottenham had missed the chance to relegate West Ham on Tuesday as Roberto De Zerbi's team fell to a familiar defeat at Stamford Bridge.

But the north London club, who have been plagued by injuries this season, with several star players missing most, if not all, of their campaign, held their nerve today to finish above the dotted line.

De Zerbi has worked wonders since replacing Igor Tudor at the end of March and whatever happens under him now, the Italian is a legend of the club.

West Ham, meanwhile, looked set for relegation for much of the season, until their form improved following a win over Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January raised hopes of a dramatic escape act.

Nuno Espírito Santo's side did their part by winning at the London Stadium, but it ended up being too little, too late and they must prepare for a season in the second tier for the first time since 2012.
