We’re into the final full week of the offseason, so it’s time to release our preaseason All-Big 12 team.
OFFENSE
QB Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma, junior
The Heisman hopeful finished fourth in the voting last season after leading the Sooners to the College Football Playoff by throwing for 3,700 yards with a 68.1 percent completion rate, best among season-long starting QBs in the Big 12.
RB Samaje Perine, Oklahoma, junior
Perine is a power back and a bona fide star, now known more for his consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and 37 career rushing touchdowns than his single-game NCAA rushing record set in 2014.
RB Mike Warren, Iowa State, sophomore
The league’s reigning offensive freshman of the year, Warren ran for 1,339 yards last year -- more than any freshman in the nation -- and set the Cyclones’ season record with a 5.9-yard average per carry.
WR James Washington, Oklahoma State, junior
The heir apparent as the Big 12’s top receiver after the league lost a pair of Biletnikoff Award finalists, Washington, as a sophomore, put together just the fourth 1,000-yard season by an Oklahoma State underclassman.
WR KD Cannon, Baylor, junior
Twice an all-league pick with 1,898 yards and 14 touchdowns under his belt, Cannon is an accomplished sprinter and a polished wideout who has caught a pass in all 26 career games.
TE Mark Andrews, Oklahoma, sophomore
The Arizona import earned first-team all-conference recognition last year after seven of his 19 catches went for touchdowns.
T Orlando Brown, Oklahoma, sophomore
Another breakout performer last year, he protects Mayfield’s blind side -- and did it well as a freshman all season, earning the distinction in the opener as one of 10 OU freshmen ever to start at tackle.
G Patrick Vahe, Texas, sophomore
Yet another youngster, Vahe earned 10 starts as a true freshman and helped the Longhorns rank third in the Big 12 in rushing yards per game.
C Kyle Fuller, Baylor, senior
A stabilizing force, pillar of strength and team leader, Fuller anchored the No. 2 rushing offense nationally a year ago and has played in 39 career games -- the most among the Bears.
G Kyle Bosch, West Virginia, junior
An anchor of arguably the Big 12’s best front five, Bosch, a Michigan transfer, started every game last season at right guard for the Mountaineers’ balanced offensive attack.
T Connor Williams, Texas, sophomore
Like Vahe, Williams starred as a true freshman in 2015, starting every game at left tackle, learning on the fly as Texas upped its per-game rushing average to 263 yards over the final seven outings.
DEFENSE
DE Noble Nwachukwu, West Virginia, senior
A two-year starter who led the Mountaineers and ranked fifth in the Big 12 with 8.5 sacks, Nwachukwu is a force on the edge for an experienced defense that may hold the key to West Virginia’s success.
DT Will Geary, Kansas State, junior
A former walk-on turned All-Big 12 performer, Geary has earned his reputation as an overachiever, recording 45 tackles as a sophomore -- the most by an interior lineman at K-State in a decade.
DT Charles Walker, Oklahoma, junior
The big Texan recorded six sacks in his first year as a starter up front for the Sooners, who missed his presence against Clemson in the CFP as Walker recovered from a concussion.
DE Josh Carraway, TCU, senior
The leader on the line for a defense that figures to show major improvement, Carraway did his part in 2015 with nine sacks and three fumble recoveries -- including a 56-yard scoop-and-score against Baylor.
LB Malik Jefferson, Texas, sophomore
The former blue-chip prospect started nine games, earning Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year honors for his 61 tackles and notable athletic prowess.
LB Elijah Lee, Kansas State, junior
A star from the day he set foot on campus in 2014, Lee, the most decorated defensive underclassman at K-State in nearly a generation, transitioned easily from defensive end and totaled 80 tackles last year.
CB Jordan Thomas, Oklahoma, junior
A returning first-team all-league pick, he intercepted five passes last year and developed into a well-rounded defender after breaking into the lineup as a true freshman.
S Jordan Sterns, Oklahoma State, senior
On track to rank among the school’s greats in the secondary, Sterns has posted consecutive 100-tackle seasons and stood alone as the Cowboys' top defender in 2015.
S Steven Parker, Oklahoma, junior
A versatile and physical player, Parker earned second-team all-conference honors a year ago after starting at both safety spots and nickelback. Alongside Thomas, he anchors the Big 12’s best secondary.
S Denzel Johnson, TCU, senior
A former prep quarterback who has played in 38 games for the Horned Frogs, Johnson has grown into his role as the best utility DB in the Big 12, recording a team-high 13.5 tackles for loss in 2015.
CB Davante Davis, Texas, sophomore
With five starts as a true freshman last year, he quickly grew into a shutdown corner and figures to serve the Longhorns well with his high-end talent and well-rounded set of skills.
SPECIAL TEAMS
P Austin Seibert, Oklahoma, sophomore
A standout freshman as the Sooners’ kicker and punter, he’s ready to improve on a 42-yard punting average to go with 23 kicks dropped inside the 20.
K Matthew McCrane, Kansas State, junior
With 25 conversions in 26 career field goal attempts -- the best percentage nationally among active kickers -- McCrane needs to make one kick in 2016 to tie the K-State record for consecutive successful attempts.
All-purpose: KaVontae Turpin, TCU, sophomore
Got a job? Turpin, primarily a receiver, does it all for the Frogs -- run, pass, catch and return kicks. And he’s a threat each time he touches the ball.
