FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- With the New England Patriots active in the trade market over the last week, acquiring linebackers Akeem Ayers and Jonathan Casillas, let's re-set their 2015 draft picks:
1. First round (assigned selection)
2. Second round (assigned selection)
3. Third round (assigned selection)
4a. Fourth round (from Tampa Bay, via Logan Mankins trade)
4b. Fourth round (assigned selection)
6. Sixth round (from Tampa Bay, via Jonathan Casillas trade)
7. Seventh round (from Tennessee, via Akeem Ayers trade)
NOTES: Fifth-round pick traded to Tampa Bay for Casillas and a sixth-round pick. Original sixth-rounder had been traded to Tennessee for Ayers and a seventh-rounder. ... Original seventh-rounder traded to St. Louis in Greg Salas trade (assumes conditions were met). ... One of the effective parts of the Patriots' trades for Ayers and Casillas, assuming the players contribute, is that they conceded draft position not draft quantity. So the Patriots still have the same number of draft chips, they were just willing to sacrifice what will likely be 10-20 spots in the draft order when all is said and done. It's a small price to pay, from this viewpoint, to add in-season depth at a position of need.
