CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox recalled pitcher Scott Carroll from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, increasing their September active roster to 33 players.
The move comes two days after the White Sox needed seven innings from their bullpen in a 14-inning victory over the Oakland Athletics, and one day after two position players were used as pitchers in a 17-6 blowout by the A’s.
Carroll’s addition gives the White Sox a 16-man pitching staff.
The 30-year-old right-hander is 1-1 with the White Sox this season and has a 3.41 ERA over three separate stints with the major league club. He has 21 strikeouts over 29 innings. He was 7-4 at Charlotte with a 3.47 ERA and made 16 starts.
