WASHINGTON -- As if all the injuries were not enough, now the Los Angeles Dodgers are dealing with illness.
All-Star rookie shortstop Corey Seager was out of the lineup for Tuesday's series opener at Washington with what manager Dave Roberts called a "stomach virus." Chris Taylor started at shortstop and Howie Kendrick hit in the No. 2 spot of the order.
"He came in today and didn't feel well," Roberts said. "So after talking to the training staff, we had him go back to the hotel, rest up, get some fluids in him and see where he's at."
Roberts did not rule out the possibility that Seager could return to the ballpark and pinch hit in the late innings.
"I think the No. 1 thing is to get him out of the heat and get some fluids in him," Roberts said.
