You could call him a "John of all trades."
John Jaso, who primarily served as a first baseman for the Pittsburgh Pirates this past season, is expected to work out at third base and in the outfield during the offseason in preparation for 2017, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

First base isn't even his original position -- Jaso was drafted back in 2003 as a catcher and played there primarily until 2014. After DH'ing and playing some outfield with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015, Jaso signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Pirates and transitioned to first base.
Given the presence of top prospect Josh Bell likely limiting Jaso's playing time at first, manager Clint Hurdle hopes a position change -- if the 33-year-old isn't traded -- can keep his bat in the lineup.
"The guy has a swing that plays. He has an eye at the plate that plays. It's hard to turn your back on it," Hurdle said.
Jaso hit .268 with eight home runs, 42 RBIs and a .353 OBP this season. He had a .994 fielding percentage and committed just five errors in 108 games in his first year at first base.
"It's something I want to do. I want to keep playing defense," Jaso told MLB.com. "I have confidence I can do it. It's not going to take anybody's job, but it's another card in my hand."
