The Beltway Series might soon find its way into free agency.

The Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals are among the teams interested in free-agent catcher Matt Wieters, reports Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post, citing a person familiar with the situation.
With Wilson Ramos "almost certainly" gone next season, the Nats would be in need of right-handed power, Janes writes. As one of the top active catchers from an offensive standpoint, Wieters could provide such while also filling the team's void behind the plate. A switch-hitter, Wieters slashed .243/.302/.409 with 17 home runs, 17 doubles and 66 RBIs last season, and he caught 35 percent of runners attempting to steal.
Wieters has spent his entire career with Baltimore; he was drafted by the O's in 2007 and made his major-league debut with the team in 2009.
ESPN's Jim Bowden projects
that Wieters, a four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, will sign a three-year, $40 million contract this winter.
