The Indiana Pacers agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million contract with Chicago Bulls free agent Aaron Brooks, reports The Indianapolis Star. When the deal is finalized, the Pacers will have 16 players under contract, which is one above the regular-season limit of 15. Out of the 16 players, 14 have full salary protection for 2016-17, which means one of the other two will likely be waived. A decision should come next week.

The two players are guard Glenn Robinson III and forward Shayne Whittington, and both will have their 2016-17 salaries fully guaranteed if they are not waived on or before Aug. 1. Whittington is more likely to be waived because Robinson is already guaranteed more than $200,000 of his $1,050,500 for next season and Whittington currently has no salary protection.
There is a chance both players could agree to push back the guarantee date until the end of the 2016 preseason schedule to ensure they will extend their stay with the club.
Whittington played in seven NBA games this past season and averaged 1.6 points and 1.7 rebounds. Robinson made 45 regular-season appearances and averaged 3.8 points and 1.5 rebounds.
