Bobby Parnell struggles in rehab appearance

NEW YORK -- Bobby Parnell's road back from Tommy John surgery has included some rough rehab appearances.

The latest came Tuesday afternoon with Class A St. Lucie. Parnell allowed one run on two hits and two walks while recording only two outs against Jupiter. He struck out one batter.

It marked Parnell's third rehab appearance with the Florida State League club. He has a 10.13 ERA with St. Lucie.

Parnell underwent Tommy John surgery on April 8, 2014.

His velocity has not returned to pre-surgery levels -- not yet, anyway. His fastball sat 89-92 mph on Tuesday, and touched 93 mph once.

Manager Terry Collins has said Jeurys Familia will remain the closer, at least initially, once Parnell returns.
