CHICAGO -- New York Mets captain David Wright's lower-back pain has turned out to be a bigger deal than originally suspected.
Wright continued to get therapy on the back Tuesday, but has not yet resumed baseball activity. He halted his return from a right hamstring strain nearly a week ago and was examined on Thursday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan.
Team doctors determined Wright does not have a repeat of the stress fracture that cost him two months on the disabled list in 2011, team officials have indicated.
Wright departed an April 14 game with a right hamstring strain and was placed on the DL. He was poised to begin a rehab assignment this past weekend before the back issue surfaced, Collins said.
"He's dying to get back out there, but there's no real timetable when that's going to happen," Collins said Tuesday. "... The only good news is he feels better."
