Yoenis Cespedes assigned to DH to rest sore shoulder

BALTIMORE -- Manager Terry Collins took advantage of the New York Mets playing in an American League ballpark and placed Yoenis Cespedes in the lineup as the designated hitter on Wednesday to rest the outfielder's sore throwing shoulder.

Collins said Cespedes' issue is not severe. In fact, the manager maintained, Cespedes is not even seeking treatment.

"That's what you get for throwing the ball 350 feet," Collins quipped, referring to Cespedes' laser one-hop throw from deep center field to third base to nail Pittsburgh's Sean Rodriguez attempting a triple on Sunday.
