Mets commit to Logan Verrett in Matt Harvey's spot

ATLANTA -- Logan Verrett will take Matt Harvey's rotation turn on Monday, when the New York Mets open a series at Citi Field against the Miami Marlins, manager Terry Collins confirmed.

Harvey is being skipped once, then is likely to pitch against the Yankees next weekend in Queens.

Although general manager Sandy Alderson and agent Scott Boras have not hashed out a pitching plan, it is highly likely that Harvey will exceed 180 innings during the regular season -- which was the line above which Boras had suggested Harvey's health would be imperiled. Harvey currently sits at 171 2/3 innings.

Verrett opposes Marlins left-hander Justin Nicolino on Monday, followed by Jacob deGrom versus right-hander Tom Koehler on Tuesday and Bartolo Colon versus left-hander Adam Conley on Wednesday.

Verrett has not appeared since returning from the minors on Tuesday. In two September appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas, Verrett allowed 12 runs on 19 hits and two walks in 11 2/3 innings.
