And on Sunday, Yoenis Cespedes will rest

ATLANTA -- Yoenis Cespedes will get a day off after all.

Cespedes, who declined an invitation to rest Saturday, volunteered to sit out Sunday's series finale as the New York Mets attempt to complete a four-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves.

Cespedes has started all but one game for the Mets since he arrived in a July 31 trade with the Detroit Tigers.

After declining an invitation from manager Terry Collins to sit out Saturday, Cespedes homered in the eighth and produced a run-scoring fielder's choice in the ninth as the Mets beat the Braves 6-4 at Turner Field.

Cespedes has 16 homers and 41 RBIs in 39 games with the Mets.

Asked if teams might start to pitch around the sizzling Cespedes, Collins noted the Mets' lineup is deep and Daniel Murphy, David Wright and Lucas Duda are no slouches hitting behind Cespedes.

"They have their choice," Collins said. "Here comes Murph. Here comes David. Here comes Duda. ... You look at the lineup the way it's shaken out, there's a lot of firepower in there right now."

Collins also said he will give David Wright and Travis d'Arnaud the day off Sunday against the Braves.
