Four-run first inning helps Milwaukee power past No. 4 Auburn


Milwaukee stunned No. 4 seed Auburn 13-8 on Friday at Plainsman Park in the opening game of the Auburn Regional.

The Panthers jumped on the Tigers with a four-run first inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Bradyn Horn, and never relinquished the lead.

Milwaukee's offense was relentless, pounding out 16 hits. Charlie Marion went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and four RBIs, and Horn finished 1-for-4. The Panthers also received contributions from Grant Ross, Joey Spence and John Hadley VI, who each had three hits. Starter Gavin Theis pitched four innings, allowing three runs, and Riley Peterson handled the final five frames.

Auburn tried to mount a comeback after falling behind 10-0. Eric Guevara led the charge, going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and four RBIs. Ethin Bingaman hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning, and Chase Fralick added a solo shot in the fifth. The Tigers' pitching struggled to contain the Panthers' bats, as starter Jake Marciano was chased after one inning, having allowed six earned runs on eight hits. Auburn used eight pitchers in the contest.

There was a roughly 30-minute weather delay midway through the sixth inning.

Up next: On Saturday, Auburn will play in an elimination game at Plainsman Park at 3 p.m. ET, and Milwaukee will play at 8 p.m.
