Brosius' 2 long balls lead Georgia Tech past Oklahoma


Parker Brosius hit two homers and drove in four runs to lead Georgia Tech to a 9-3 victory over Oklahoma in the Atlanta Regional on Saturday at Mac Nease Baseball Park.

The Yellow Jackets (50-9) also received a solo home run from Vahn Lackey, who finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Alex Hernandez contributed a two-run single and went 2-for-5, while Ryan Zuckerman added an RBI. Starting pitcher Tate McKee allowed three runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking four in six innings.

Georgia Tech jumped to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on Brosius's first home run. After Oklahoma cut the lead to 2-1 in the third on a throwing error, Lackey extended the lead back to two with his solo shot in the fourth. The Sooners battled back, with Dayton Tockey hitting a solo homer in the fifth and Jaxon Willits adding another in the sixth to tie the score at 3.

Brosius answered immediately in the bottom of the frame with a go-ahead two-run homer to give the Yellow Jackets a 5-3 advantage they would not relinquish. Georgia Tech broke the game open with a four-run seventh inning, highlighted by Hernandez's two-run single.

For the Sooners (33-22), Tockey and Willits each went 1-for-3. Kyle Branch was the only Oklahoma player with multiple hits, going 2-for-3. Starting pitcher Xander Mercurius worked 5⅔ innings, surrendering five earned runs on seven hits. He struck out eight and walked three.

Up next: Oklahoma faces The Citadel in an elimination game Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. Georgia Tech will play the winner Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
