Virginia RB Solomon Beebe arrested on animal cruelty charges

Virginia running back Solomon Beebe was arrested earlier this week and charged with three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

According to The Daily Progress, a housekeeper at his apartment complex told an animal control officer she saw Beebe hit his dog multiple times -- including holding the dog against a wall and punching with a closed fist.

Court records show there were multiple incidents -- one on Aug. 10 and two on Aug. 12.

Beebe was arrested on Aug. 17 and appeared in Albemarle County District Court on Thursday. His next court appearance is scheduled for October.

In a statement, the university did not address his status with the football team.

"The University does not comment on matters involving ongoing criminal proceedings or student records," the statement said.

Beebe transferred to Virginia from UAB and was expected to be one of the team's primary kickoff returners and in the rotation at running back.
