10:19pm Capitals continue their stronghold over ADKR in the ILT20 - a head-to-head record of 7-1 now. A humdinger of a finish, thanks to Russell. He walked in to bat at No. 8 when ADKR needed 101 off 47. He scored 53 from there to give Capitals a mighty scare. Such was his might on the night that Capitals were forced to throw in a relatively inexperienced seamer (Jawadullah) for the final over instead of a veteran (Nabi). Eventually worked out for them. Just.
Capitals' batting was all about Jahangir, who took eight balls to score his first run before finishing with his T20 best of 99. He sent the ADKR bowlers, Narine included, on a leather-hunt. Holder and Ajay returned with respectable figures but an ask of close to ten an over was always going to challenge ADKR, whose batting hasn't really clicked this season. Lots to ponder for them, as they have four defeats and one win this season.
Waqar Salamkheil is presented the white belt for the leading wicket-taker by Urooj Mumtaz. He now has ten wickets, level with Desert Vipers' Khuzima Tanveer, but gets the belt by lieu of having more points.
Jason Holder, ADKR captain: "Close game. Credit to the boys. The guys believed till the end. We've seen improvements. Need to stick together. If we lose belief, might as well pack our bags and go home."
Dasun Shanaka, Capitals captain: "You need to be nervous when Holder and Russell are in the crease. Was confident with Jawadullah's bowling. We had the score on board but there was dew, never know with these power-hitters. [Jawadullah] might be nervous but he knew he might have to bowl an over or two at the death. The discussion was to bowl wider. It is cricket, can't expect him to come and bowl the last over. Nabi was there, made my work easier. Jahangir was under pressure, didn't do well in powerplay but went on to make 99. Hopefully he will deliver more in the coming days."
Shayan Jahangir: "I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the win. Getting back-to-back wins is important for the morale. When I was 15, I used to play with Pakistan women's team. Glad I was here and to be part of ILT20, representing America who is making great strides in cricket. The talent back home is amazing. We who are playing leagues all over the world are trailblazers. With these performances, US cricket will get more recognition. Dubai Capitals have been kind, said positive things to me and backed my game. Getting this responsibility means a lot, glad I was able to give back."
Right then. Capitals move up to third on the points table while ADKR continue to be placed fifth. The action comes thick and fast as double-header Sunday approaches us. MI Emirates take on Sharjah Warriorz to get off the bottom half of the table in the afternoon. Capitals will be in action again tomorrow evening as they take on toppers Desert VIpers. Do join us for all the action. Till then, take care, ciao!
