10:52pm That will be a wrap from us for tonight. We hope you enjoyed our coverage and we will be back tomorrow with plenty more cricket. Do join us for all of those games too. But until then, from Harshith, Thilak and myself (Shashwat), it is goodbye!

Andries Gous, Player of the Match: (On his innings) Nice to be keeping before that, to know how the wicket would play. When the dew kicked in, it was nice to bat. Was slow up front. When we bowled (over 16), it started skidding on, so knew when we would bat, it would be decent. (On playing the T10 before this league) It was a nice finish for me in the back end of that tournament and it was a nice confidence (boost). (On keeping to Noor and if he is reading him) Batters are finding it tough, keepers are finding it tough. Good challenge and something I will enjoy. Good to get that first fifty behind you.

Sam Curran, Desert Vipers captain: They had the better of us last year, but nice to start (with a win). Little bit scrappy towards the end but two points is what matters. The way they (Naseem and Tanveer) bowled in the powerplay, and then someone like Noor, and then Payne and me using our slower ones
they probably got 20 too many (than what we wanted), but the wicket got better. It is a little different to the last time. Dew seems to be playing more of a factor. Lot of stuff we can do better. Happy with the win. (On the opening combo) Great to have those two (Fakhar and Gous) there. Gous showed his class. We have a powerful batting line-up. First game is nervous but that (win) will give the group a bit of a lift.

Dasun Shanaka, Dubai Capitals captain: (What went wrong) It is about setting the tone at the start of the tournament. With the bat, we were not up to the mark. 150-160 is the par score here, with the way it behaved in the first innings. They bowled in good areas. Hopefully we can come up with better plans (next time). You have to give yourself a chance when batting, and holding a line and length is the norm (with the ball).

10:36pm Well, that got a whole lot tenser than what the Vipers would have bargained for. Gous did the early running alongside Fakhar, and as long as Gous was at the crease, it felt the Vipers would seal the deal at a canter. But his dismissal, plus that of Hetmyer and Nawaz meant that Tanveer was thrust into the limelight, with Lawrence at the other end. Both, though, held their nerve and the Vipers finished the evening with the win they always felt primed to get.

The Capitals, on the other hand, will feel they just did not have enough to play with. They also conceded 64 in the powerplay and were playing catch-up thereafter. Salamkheil did give an excellent account of himself, but the lack of runs, plus the early damage the Vipers caused, was just too much of a mountain to climb for the Capitals.

Currie to Khuzaima Tanveer, 2 runs, there it is! A thumping blow down the ground, and the Vipers are off the mark at the first time of asking! Slower ball that lands in the slot on the stumps. Tanveer clears his front leg and boshes it back past the non-striker. Long on tries his best but may not have prevented the boundary. Not that it would have mattered since the batters ran two anyway!

1
Currie to Lawrence, 1 run, short and wide outside off. Lawrence throws his hands at it and slashes it down to deep third

2
Currie to Lawrence, 2 runs, dug into the track outside off. Lawrence spots it well in time, swivels a touch and belts it over mid wicket. Powell reins it in on the fence but cannot prevent the second

Currie to Lawrence, no run, off-pace on a length just outside off. Lawrence shuffles across before patting it back to the bowler

Shadow-Shell: "Looks like the one over bowled by Jawadullah might be the difference"

1
Currie to Khuzaima Tanveer, 1 run, shortish and hung up wide outside off. Tanveer wafts at it and gets a thick outside edge that bobbles down to deep third

Vipers one hit away now

18.1
2
Currie to Khuzaima Tanveer, 2 runs, slower ball on a length outside off. Tanveer has an ugly swipe at it and somehow lobs it over the bowler's head and over mid off for a brace

8 off 12. This is still very much the Vipers' game to lose. Currie to bowl. Tanveer on strike
