Player of the Match, Liam Livingstone: "I think I've said it a few times. The more opportunity I get to read conditions and try and give myself a chance, the easier I find it. Just being able to have a couple of balls to see what the pitch was playing like and building an innings from there. I was a bit scratchy early on, but toward the end, I started to find my rhythm. [Targeting areas] I think so. Obviously, at this ground, there's one short side, and it was downwind as well. So you've got to try and pick your bowlers and pick your ends. Certainly, this was the sort of end to get me going, and as you get toward the back end, you've got to try and take on both boundaries. I was pretty happy with the way I sort of built an innings and then managed to finish it off at the end. [Final over] I know I'll be at the other end at some point this tournament, watching him [Russell] go at it. It's certainly nice to look around our dressing room and see the talent we've got in there."
Sunil Narine: "I think it's good. It's pretty good. The way we started off with the bat, Alex Hales was good, and then the continuation with Liam Livingstone and Sherfane Rutherford. I think that partnership really set it up for us. [On 600 Wickets] I was trying to get my 600th wicket in the CPL; I forgot about it here. It's only after the game someone reminded me. It's good to reach there. I genuinely practice a lot, but I think it's all about sticking to what you practice. The harder you work in practice, it makes it a little easier in a game. So it's just concentrating on what you do in practice and trying to execute as best as possible. [On Ajay Kumar's Spell] I think he was excellent in the Powerplay. Bowling three overs in the Powerplay against guys who are going after 200-plus totals is brilliant. I think he has good qualities and he has a good slow ball. He used it well tonight. Hopefully, he learns from this and keeps going better and better for us in the tournament."
Tim Southee: "I think that was obviously a dangerous batting lineup, and the only way to slow that hitting down is to take wickets. We weren't able to do that through the middle and toward the back end. I think we were a little bit off with the ball and probably in the field as well. Credit to the Knight Riders; they played well. [Difficulty of Bowling Yorkers] It is tough. I think players nowadays are getting a lot better at hitting the yorker, so the margin for error is so small now. You have guys hitting low full tosses and balls that are just missing for six. It goes back to when we had to take wickets. It's the easiest way to slow the scoring down, and we weren't able to do that. We know how dangerous Liam Livingstone, Sherfane Rutherford, and Andre Russell can be. We knew this was a very dangerous batting lineup, and we needed to take wickets to slow that down."
10:20 pm The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders start their campaign with a dominating win in all three departments. The Sharjah Warriorz got off to a slow start, restricted by the pinpoint accurate yorkers of debutant Ajay and the fast bowling of Stone in the Powerplay. Chawla struck right after the powerplay, forcing Kohler-Cadmore to get stumped out. The pivotal moment came when Chawla seemed to dismiss Tim David for 16, but the dismissal was overturned due to a no-ball as the keeper's glove touched the stump and dislodged the bails. David responded immediately, striking three sixes off Chawla's over and going on to score a blistering 60 runs off 24 balls. Pretorius added a well-struck cameo of 39 runs off 20 balls, but the scoreboard pressure was too much in the end. Despite the terrific effort from the lower order to reach near the 200-run mark, the Knight Riders' collective bowling effort was superior. All six bowlers picked up wickets, with Stone, Russell, and Garton bagging two scalps each. The Warriorz have plenty to learn and recover from this defeat. Post Match Presentation stuff coming up shortly.
