We could have won that one as well but unfortunately didn't finish it. Today was about ensuring we did the right things. As Pollard mentioned, we know how strong Rovman Powell is. Before the last two balls of that over, the skipper told me I had to do something different. I decided to bowl a tossed-up delivery to see if he would go for it, and it produced the right result. It's great to be in a team that blends experience with new talent. I try to share what I've learned from the cricket I've played to give the younger players positive motivation. We gave 200% on the field today. Between the way Naveen, Shepherd, Ghazanfar, and Mendis bowled, it was a complete team effort. That collective energy really boosted us as a unit. I really enjoy the motivation that comes when teammates celebrate your success. It gives everyone--both on and off the field--great energy. [Pollard's celebration] We are a family, one team. Kieron Pollard: "We saw how they bowled early on; even by the second over, Fizz was using slower balls and bowling to the big side, and David [Willey] as well. We took those learnings into our defense. However, being 90-odd for two and losing the rest of our wickets for very little is unacceptable. [Mind Games] I've been around a long time and know that in close games, batters can become relaxed or complacent. I wanted to apply pressure. There is no point in having a fielder under the batter's lid if you aren't bowling in the right areas, so credit goes to the bowlers for their execution. In the huddle, I told the guys I didn't care about the result, but I wanted us to give everything. They were brilliant, and I'm incredibly happy with how they defended. We snuck two points today despite not having enough runs. [Plan for Rovman Powell] It feels great when plans come together. I know Rovman well and knew we had one opportunity to go at him. If we got that wicket, we were back in the game. He is a powerful hitter who can take the game away, but I am aware of his weaknesses. We took a chance with Rashid Khan's tossed-up googly; it worked perfectly, and Rashid executed it well. Naveen came in and did his part exceptionally well, taking that double wicket over to seal the deal. He bowled well in Sharjah but hadn't had an opportunity since; that is the nature of our squad and the quality we have on the bench. It was a total team effort from the bowling and fielding units."

Dasun Shanaka: "We really bowled them out of the game, but dropped catches cost us runs. Some of those went for boundaries that shouldn't have been conceded. There were times we almost controlled the game, but it was very unfortunate. The chase ebbed and flowed. Even when Rovman Powell was out there, it felt like the game was in our hands. However, the wicket of Powell--and then myself giving my wicket away--changed everything. We handed them wickets exactly when they needed them. We essentially gave away the win. I don't think the lights had any impact; the conditions are really good. It comes down to judgment. There were errors in judgment, which can happen, but it's a tough one to take. I'm sure you'll have a word with the team tonight. It was a difficult loss, and we wish you the very best for the next game."

The Capitals began their chase with intent as Shayan Jahangir played several aggressive strokes, helping the team reach 51/1 in the Powerplay, surpassing the Emirates' score of 40/0 at the same stage. Rohid claimed the first breakthrough, using a sharp bouncer to cramp Leus du Plooy, who gloved the ball to the keeper. The momentum shifted when the Emirates' spinners took control. Rashid Khan turned the game by dismissing Jahangir for 34 with a googly before cleaning up Rovman Powell's off-stump with another ferocious wrong'un delivery. Kamindu Mendis soon joined the party, bowling out Dasun Shanaka, while a freaky run-out in the 15th over saw Jimmy Neesham depart.
