That's all from the first match of today's double-header. Thank you so much for tuning in. Do join Rvel Zahid for the second match of the day. For now, it's time to say goodbye. Take care and go well.
Nicholas Pooran: "First of all, praise Jesus, always. We are a very optimistic team. We defend low totals and we always back our players 100% to get the job done. For us as a group, we understand the conditions here. T20 cricket is never over. In saying that, I felt that we got a bit lucky as well. Maybe they were a little bit stagnant, but the West Indian combo we have in Polly and Shepherd was magnificent for us. They really came through under some pressure moments, and it was wonderful to see how we closed off those last couple of overs. [Polly went off with a shoulder issue] I guess we'll have to ask him, but I think he has a little niggle in his shoulder. We have to look after him, right? 15,000 runs there. Obviously, just to touch on him a bit, after today, he proves why he has the most T20 runs. In my opinion, he's probably the greatest T20 batter ever, doing it at number five and number six, and the way he took that responsibility to get us a respectable total was incredible. Not only that, but building a partnership with Tajinder, too. To see a local player come out and really play to his full potential was wonderful, especially after having a tough tournament. It just shows the belief we have in the dressing room for him, and it's nice for him to go out there and do well. All in all, a wonderful two points for us, and we'll take this momentum forward."
Player of the Match, Tajinder Singh: "First of all, I would like to thank the team management and thank God for giving me this opportunity. And yeah, the chat last night with Polly, I think it worked. He gave me advice on what I need to do on this particular surface and in this tournament. So I would like to say thank you to Polly, and to Sunny Bhai as well, Sunny Patel. [Pitch] I think it's a little bit slow. When I went out to bat, Polly was there. He's a legend of this game. He said if you stay there for another four to five overs, it will be easy for you to hit boundaries anywhere in the field. So I did exactly that, and it worked. [Direct throws] Yeah, I would like to thank the coach who gave us training. And I would like to dedicate this Man of the Match to my brother, who passed away in January. He was my first coach, Mr. Gurjit, so I would like to dedicate this award to him."
Marcus Stoinis: "[What was the moment you felt that this game was lost?] No, I think we were in that game right to the end. We were probably in the box seat when Seifert and Breetzke were batting. It just shows how quick the game changes. I don't think we bowled smart enough towards the end, and I don't think we took enough responsibility with the bat. So yeah, that one is pretty disappointing. I think Shepherd bowled two really good overs that changed the game, using the short end with the wind. So I think it was a mixture of good bowling and poor batting. [Next match] We'll win tomorrow, and we're through."
7:10 pm For the most part of the run chase, it looked like a walk in the park for the Orcas to cross the line, but New York staged a tremendous late comeback spearheaded by Shepherd's clinical bowling. The Orcas enjoyed a much stronger start compared to New York, racing to 46 for 1 in the Powerplay, with Jahangir being the only wicket to fall due to a run-out. Tim Seifert anchored the chase beautifully, playing some gorgeous strokes all around the ground to bring up his fifty off 40 balls. He found excellent support in Breetzke, who found form just in time to hit a crucial 44 before heading back to the dugout, ending a commanding 117-run partnership. Then came the late drama as New York suddenly began chipping away with quick wickets. Seifert finally departed after a brilliant 88 off 61 balls, but the middle order completely crumbled behind him. In a bizarre scorecard, Seifert and Breetzke were the only two batters to reach double figures, with none of the remaining lineup stepping up to take responsibility or contribute to the score. Shepherd turned the game on its head at the death, conceding just one run in the 17th over and three runs in the 19th over, while also removing both Stoinis and Seifert in that crucial penultimate over. Shepherd and Pollard finished with two wickets each, while Ugarkar chipped in with one. Post-match presentations are coming up next!
