11:29pm These breathless games keep coming in the WPL, don't they? Just three days in, and it feels like an entire catalogue of sporting drama has already been unveiled. And it only promises to get better. We will be back with more WPL action tomorrow. Until then, from everyone here at ESPNcricinfo, it is goodbye!
Sophie Devine, Player of the Match: Probably just relieved. 210 was a good score but with their batting line-up, it was always in the balance. Really pleased for the group but on these pitches, 200-210 might not be enough. You can play with a real sense of freedom. At times, early on, having played so much with her at the Scorchers (Mooney), nice to have her there to stay in my ear to keep me calm and not swing too hard. Going to be some big scores out here in this tournament. (On the final over) Lucky that I have played for a while. The pressure was taken off me, they were the ones who had to win (with just seven needed) Nice to be contribute to this group. Does not matter if you have played one or a hundred games - going out there and performing for your team is always pleasing.
Ashleigh Gardner, Gujarat Giants captain: One of those games where it was in the balance the whole time. 60 off 4, in the past, you'd have been more comfortable but here in India, you're never out of it. To be able to defend seven in the last over, we stole it, and this gives confidence (to the dressing room). (Chat before bowling innings) Felt like we were 15 short. That part was disappointing. We knew their batting had firepower. We knew 200 was a fantastic score but we knew we had to field and bowl well. There were glimpses where we did both well but still lots of learnings. Happy we have two wins on the board. Overseas players make these competitions but Indian players win you these competitions. Our bowlers did an amazing job - our two left arm spinners especially . Anushka as well (with that save).
Jemimah Rodrigues, Delhi Capitals captain: Very proud of the girls, the way we fought back. She (Devine) put us under pressure but the way Nandani and Charani bowled...could not be more proud. Tough pill to swallow but lots of positives to take. (On what they need to rectify most) Our powerplay bowling - we need to get our plans more sorted. Tough to bowl when Devine is in such form. Such games, you want to finish off on the winning side. (On Nandani) She has been one of our top picks. A captain's delight. She is so accurate in whatever she does. Ready to take it on, and very happy for her. (How to put it right) One thing DC has done well is to maintain a positive environment. Anything can happen as long as we keep the belief. These two days off could help us and we will come back stronger.
Anushka Sharma: I am out of words. Fabulous innings by Devine and Ash, and wonderful to watch them bat. (On her effort to save a six) I was just focusing on what I could do better. Our fielding coach gave me confidence. It was self belief and I am trying to do better. It feels surreal that I am playing among the great players, and getting to learn from my teammates. It is just wonderful. (On the last over) We were just focusing on what we could do better. That makes the difference when you have experience. You need to be calm and that is how you deal with pressure.
Hypocaust: "In match where the average run-rate was 10.35 rpo, and 20 sixes were hit, the 20th overs combined across both innings featured just 4 runs and 6 wickets in the space of 12 balls."
11:06pm Phew. This WPL keeps upstaging itself. With four overs left, DC were out of it. They needed 60 off 24. But then, a quick salvo and some bruising hitting left them with only seven to get off the 20th over. That, though, is when things began breaking. Rodrigues fell early in the over. Wolvaardt followed suit soon after, and Rana and Kapp could not find the fence either.
At the heart of that drama was Devine. Cool as a cucumber. Calm as a champion. And with a crafty over just when it mattered most. Do not forget about the six Anushka saved in the penultimate over, especially with the Giants winning by four runs. A terrific spell by Gayakwad too and even though there were areas GG could have been better in, they will be thrilled having won two very close games to begin their campaign.
Rana, who conceded 32 against Devine, has a chance for the ultimate redemption act. 5 off 1
L Wolvaardt c Wareham b Devine 77 (65m 38b 9x4 3x6) SR: 202.63
5 off 2. Surely not a Super Over?
6 off 3 now
6 off 4. Kapp versus Devine. World-class versus world-class. Who are you backing?
JI Rodrigues c †Mooney b Devine 15 (18m 9b 2x4 0x6) SR: 166.66
6 off 5. Long on, deep mid wicket, fine leg and long off on the fence
Incredible. Just incredible. DC on the verge of something very special. Just 7 needed off 6 now. Devine, who enthralled with the bat earlier today, now tasked with pulling off something special with the ball too
