Rahmat Shah, Afghanistan captain: "[Batting performance] I think our top order did pretty well and assessed the conditions early. That's why we made around 300 runs. I think we missed out on 20 to 30 runs. The target would have been 330 if we hadn't given our wickets away in the middle. [Bowling tactics] Yeah, there was wind from one side, so I used the fast bowlers against the wind and the spinners with the wind. Especially Rashid bowled really well, and we are very lucky to have a bowler like him. The fast bowlers and spinners were given a plan, and they executed it really well. That's why the result came out good."

Paul Stirling, Ireland captain: "[Plenty of positives] Yeah, I think so. There was a slight bit of rust there in all three facets, but you're right. We'll look back at it over the next 24 hours and see that we did a lot of good things. We were probably just fractionally off the pace. In the field, we could have had a chance for a run-out or two if we had executed, and with bat and ball, we sort of fell away with the bat at the back end and with the ball at the start. So yeah, plenty to work on. [New players coming in] Absolutely, they all showed what they can do. In fact, some had brilliant games themselves. It's about putting that together as a package. When you start with three new faces, you've got to build a little bit from the ground up, but they've shown signs that they belong and hopefully have good futures ahead. [Discussion between games] We're going to have to adapt pretty quickly. In the past, Rashid Khan is a brilliant bowler, but we've negated him well by taking his wickets away. You saw that we were able to capitalize on the other bowlers, so we were always up with the run rate. At halfway through the second innings, we were in with a great chance of winning the game, but we sort of capitulated a bit towards the back end. So if you take the wickets away from Rashid Khan, we're fairly well in the game."

Rashid Khan is the player of the match: "[What did you enjoy about bowling here so much?] Well, I think the sharp spin you get here is something which I really like, especially in these conditions. But more importantly, the challenge was hitting the right area consistently, and I think that was something I've been focusing on. Hit the right area, and you get good help there. [Right area for leg spinners] That five to five and a half meter length. I feel like bowling into the stumps is something that brings you into the game, and you should always try your best to finish your ball into the stumps--that's what makes you very effective. But as a spinner, I feel like nowadays you just need to keep things simple for yourself. Hit the right area, that good length of five to five and a half meters, and keep mixing it up. It always depends on how you want to use the leg-spin, wrong'un, or flipper, but the most important thing is the length and making sure it's finishing into the stumps. Just keep it simple and keep enjoying your magic. [Complete performance as a team] Yeah, one game doesn't make us the best team, and we had a very tough series against India. There are some areas in the bowling unit we need to improve from a fast-bowling perspective. Especially at the death--we haven't had much opportunity to bowl at the death--and with the new ball, I feel like we can be much better than that. Against India, we made so many mistakes. For us, it's a great opportunity where we as a team collectively come and bowl as well as possible in the right length. It's going to be good preparation for the next World Cup, but more importantly, I feel like with control in fast bowling, we can be much better."

7.07pm A swift end to the Ireland innings, with world class Rashid Khan cleaning things up in a jiffy. The game was pretty much neck and neck till the time Cade Carmichael and Ben Calitz were going but Rashid became the difference. The slide began with Lorcan Tucker's run out, and then the Rashid Khan show began. From 106 for 2, Ireland slipped to 152 for 5 and then from 198 for 5 to 207 all out. They lost their last five wickets for nine runs with Rashid Khan finishing on 6 for 34 and Afghanistan winning by 92 runs.
