That will be all from us today, folks. Thank you for tuning in and staying with us throughout the match today. Do join us again on 11th June for the 2nd ODI game. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub signing off on behalf of Alex Malcolm, Thilak Ramamurthy and Ranjith P. Shubho Ratri!
Mehidy Hasan Miraz: "We are very happy because of the way we batted. Shanto and Tanzid, the way they batted, I was really excited about that moment. [Batting tactics] I think we can do even better because, you know, Shanto and Tanzid, the way they were batting, it was unfortunate getting out. But the way Mosaddek batted at the end, along with Taskin, they were really not worried that time. [Mosaddek's comeback] It's been difficult for Mosaddek because he came back after a long time, and the way he showed his performance was excellent. I think we need to perform in those moments, and they showed their character. As a captain, I'm really happy. We just need to keep going and keep the momentum."
Player of the Match, Mosaddek Hossain: "[Called back to the national team after 4 years] The feeling was the same as when I first got called up to the national team for my debut. Alhamdulillah, I got the opportunity and won player of the match. [Plan while batting] The conditions weren't easy when we were batting. It was a 300-320 run wicket, but after losing two quick wickets, I backed myself. The way I performed in the Premier League, I tried to bat in the same way. So from that place, I am lucky to be successful for the team. [Bowling performance] I would say it was overall a good opportunity and I managed to grasp it nicely. I would request everyone to support and pray for us and for our team so that we can win the series convincingly. And the way I have made the comeback, I hope to serve Bangladesh the same way as long as I play for the national team."
Josh Inglis: "[284 target] I think probably a disappointing total on our part. Obviously, we dropped four or five catches, and if it was somewhere around 230 to 240, I thought it was very chaseable, but yeah, disappointing. [Ellis] I thought Nathan was excellent again. In all three phases of the game, I thought he stood up really well. He used his change-ups, manoeuvred his fields well, and had a really good day out. [Discussion in the dressing room] The discussions were just to play good cricket shots. I think it was a pretty good wicket out there today. Obviously, losing two wickets really early doesn't help, and then we had guys get in throughout the innings, but no one really went on and put on a big score. We didn't have a really big partnership to sort of get us close. So, yeah, disappointing. [Next match day after tomorrow] We've had a look at the conditions now, not great today, but as you said, we've got a chance in a couple of days to put it right."
Azim : "Bangladesh has made remarkable progress over the past six months. With a deeper squad and exciting young talents such as Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Nahid Rana, and other emerging stars, the team is building real momentum. Recent performances have showcased greater confidence, consistency, and depth, strengthening belief in their potential. If they maintain this upward trajectory, Bangladesh could emerge as a genuine World Cup contender and make a major impact on the global stage. The signs are clear"
8:10 pm It was a memorable comeback for Mosaddek, who returned to the side after four years and helped Bangladesh post a competitive 284. Mirpur was packed to the brim, with thousands of fans turning up to support the home side. The atmosphere reflected just how much this victory would mean to a cricket-loving nation that has grown into a team capable of challenging any opponent on its day. Bangladesh could not have asked for a better start with the ball. After a 15-minute delay caused by rain concerns during the innings break, Taskin struck with the very first delivery of the innings, bowling out Short. Mustafizur followed up in the next over by trapping Labuschagne lbw after he misjudged a straight delivery. Australia then received a lifeline when Connolly was dropped at slip by Tanzid on five runs. Nahid Rana was outstanding with the new ball, regularly touching speeds above 145 kph. His pace proved too much for Inglis, who edged behind to the wicketkeeper. Connolly and Carey steadied the innings with a 40-run partnership, but Mosaddek broke the stand by bowling out Connolly with a clever arm ball. As Bangladesh's spinners restricted the runs, the required run rate climbed above seven an over. Carey looked set for a bigger score, but Nahid Rana produced another superb delivery that found the outside edge, and Litton completed a straightforward catch behind the stumps. Mosaddek struck again later in the innings, trapping Renshaw lbw as Bangladesh continued to build pressure. A cluster of wickets, shared mainly by Rana and Mosaddek, pushed the hosts closer to a famous victory. Green fought hard from one end, watching wickets tumble around him. He remained unbeaten on 52, but the increasing required rate and regular breakthroughs left Australia with too much to seek with the bat as Bangladesh sealed an impressive win. Hang around for the post-match presentation, folks.
8:04 pm And here comes the result we have been waiting for. The match has been called off, meaning Bangladesh won by 86 runs (DLS method) and go 1-0 up in the three-match series. Bangladesh rewrote history in 2026. Their first ODI win against the mighty Aussies came back in June 2005 - the historic match in Cardiff that announced a young Mohammad Ashraful to the world with a thumping century. Fast forward to today, and that very man is in the dugout as the Tigers' batting coach. Leading up to this 2026 clash, Bangladesh's vast experience in this format had still yielded more downs than ups against the six-time ODI World Cup champions. However, having recently flourished at home on pace-friendly, sporting wickets against various opponents, they have taken down the Aussies once again!
8:01 pm Still no new update from the ground. It is drizzling out there and the covers are placed firmly in the middle to protect the square and the wicket. The stands have emptied out as fans seek shelter from the rain and sudden lightning. Let's see how long this situation drags on. Meanwhile, the umpires are converging near the ropes, speaking with the groundstaff.
7:21 pm The whole square and the outfield are now under the large covers. It's drizzling out there, and everything is covered up. A very busy time for the groundstaff in Mirpur.
Ilman: "Nahid Rana has absolutely been on fire for the last couple of games. Including this one, he has picked up 20 wickets against New Zealand, Pakistan, and Australia. All he requires now is a proper mentor to guide him throughout the next couple of years and he shall be remembered by the 180 million Bangladeshis. "
Sonnet: "One shouldnt mask Bangladesh dominance by saying it Second tier Team. Fact is, over the last 12-14 years at Home, even the strongest of squads of Top teams struggled to beat BD. Also, Bd has started winning in abroad like pak, sl, nz, wi, Sa in recent years on regular basis. So, Bd emergence cant be denied on any scale"
7:05 pm Hello, hello! Massive lightning out there - it almost blinded me for a few seconds, and the on-field umpire clipped the bails off immediately. The players are now heading back to their dressing rooms. More lightning in the sky now, and the fans are seeking shelter, moving from the stands and heading indoors. The groundstaff are heading out with the Hessian covers to protect the pitch.
Rafi khan: "David, you are also spot on. the Australian cricket board is searching new stars to be prepared for the upcoming odi world cup. what we expect from the Aussies team just to play some good cricket. it doesn't matter whether you win or lose. not a one sided match. "
Joey: "I am assuming Bangladesh is ahead on DLS??" Australia should have scored 278 runs by now to stay ahead of the DLS score.
Daniel: "Currently we are witnessing the same old struggle of Bangladeshi bowlers against the tail enders. Nothing new. Should have won the game by 100 runs."
Ripan: "It's been 8 hours since match started and still 8 overs to go! Very slow over rate."
Vidyut: "@Daniel Obviously you want to beat the best, is it Bangladesh's fault that Australia's main guys are not playing ? I mean you can only win against who you're made to face. So I would still enjoy this win(if they go on to win) a whole lot if I were a Bangladesh fan especially considering it's taken so long for them to beat the Aussies."
END OF OVER:42 | 7 Runs | AUS: 189/9 (96 runs required from 48 balls, RR: 4.50, RRR: 12.00)
- Adam Zampa6 (14b)
- Cameron Green51 (65b)

David: "Stephen is spot on, the future looks okay for Australia but there will be a lot of results like this first before we find the right guys to take the step up to International standards. "
Daniel: "Winning is always good but not so good when it is against a "B tier" team. Playing against the likes of Starc, Cummins and Travis Head and winning would give me the ultimate pleasure as a fan. Bangladesh Played well though."
Miraz comes in to bowl
END OF OVER:41 | 10 Runs | AUS: 182/9 (103 runs required from 54 balls, RR: 4.43, RRR: 11.44)

Cap Iftekhar: "Apology to Musaddek. Always thought him as a 'bits and pieces' player. But what a comeback."
jimmyjaat: "A pace bowler bowling his last ball of the spell at 150kph is unreal these days"
Stephen: "We Australians can pretend this doesn't matter because it's not our full strength ODI squad...but what does this foretell for when many of our top squad retire in the not to distant future?"
END OF OVER:40 | 2 Runs | AUS: 172/9 (113 runs required from 60 balls, RR: 4.30, RRR: 11.30)
- Adam Zampa1 (8b)
- Cameron Green40 (59b)

Three slips in place. Can Rana get his five wicket haul?
