6pm The trophy is presented to Kusal Mendis indoors, and there's a small cheer from his team-mamtes for bringing the silverware to him. He joins Ranatunga and Atapattu as only three captains in SL history to win an ODI series in the Caribbean. On that note, thank you for your patience and company across this series. Catch you seen for the T20Is.

Kusal Mendis, SL captain: "Very happy to win the series, we did really well in that one game - in all three departments. There are not a lot of matches ahead of next year's World Cup, happy with my first series victory as captain. Got support of the staff too." He also praises his bowling unit.

Shai Hope, WI captain: "You can't control mother nature. Credit just be given to the Sri Lankan team for the way they played in the first game. [T20I series next] We need to look ahead, understand conditions. Adaptability will be key in Jamaica. We've got some experience, hope to bounce back there."

5.52pm The two umpires, under umbrellas, had an inspection with the groundstaff and have decided that we won't be able to have any game today, even if the rain stops anytime soon. That means the game is abandoned and Sri Lanka win the ODI series 1-0 A two captains have shaken hands. A winning start for the Kusal Mendis-Gary Kirsten combo!

5.28pm We've got some live pictures from Kingston: The sky in the far distance looks brighter, and it is drizzling enough for the covers to stay put. A few people are ambling across the ground occasionally without umbrellas, but that's about it. The Sabina Park drainage is supposed to be excellent though.

5.25pm Ben: "Looking at the forecast for Kingston, Jamaica, it seems like rain until midnight. Based on the forecast, they should have called this game already " -- As Ted Lasso made famous recently, it's the hope that kills us.

4.30pm No ruling from the umpires yet, says the live broadcast. "We're tired of this weather," the broadcast commentator says. He says the rain is easing off very slightly, but the forecast doesn't look promising with more rain expected. The wait continues and the chances of a game keep diminishing.

4.20pm We will have an update at 4.30pm local.

4.10pm Still raining, although not as heavy as around the toss time. We'll need a monumental effort for a game to happen today. Or so is the word on the street. But hey, we're a "glass half full" kinda crowd, so we wait, hoping for the weather to change. Or for some word from the umpires. In the last game (a washout), we were told that a 20-overs-a-side game can start as late as 8.02pm. Although that time we had the toss completed. This time, we're yet to have the toss, so the cut-off time for toss and start could be in the 7.50-55pm range.

In other news coming from the world of cricket, Ben Stokes' England captaincy is on the line after a nightclub incident alongside Gus Atkinson, which the ECB is currently investigating. The incident occured after England won the Test against New Zealand at Lord's yesterday.

Eldokiddanny: "Big Bash - JanuarySA20 - February IPL/PSL - March-May. That's the dry season in the Caribbean covered by T20 tournaments. When do people propose we have these series? Even the CPL is smack dab in the middle of the rainy season."

3.50pm RAINING still.

In case you missed it, Shamar Joseph is not available today, having left the squad for personal reasons. West Indies have also just announced their T20I squad for the games against SL that'll follow. Ackeem Auguste, Jewel Andrew and Shamar Springer are three new names from the T20I squad that played the World Cup earlier this year. The three missing are Johnson Charles, Jayden Seales and Quentin Sampson.

3.35pm JoshuaJT: "Any updates @Sreshth? Waiting without sleep for a rare away series win for Sri Lanka in ODIs. Seems like the weather gods are not interested in that." -- Still raning from what I can see, but it must've slightly eased off since the puddles that had formed have somewhat drained out.

2.20pm The drizzle has turned into a downpour. The players have gone indoors. Some thunder can be heard too.

David: "The weather has actually been pretty dry here in Kingston for the past few weeks….such is life"

Darroll: "it's crazy tht games aren't set based on a weather forecast .at leas you should be able to analyze a week or two ahead expected weather pattern and plan accordingly." -- Tough tough gig.

Latif : "Few years ago Pakistan also came to play in West Indies in the month of June. Only one match could be played out of five due to rainy weather. In this month it is useless to play in Caribbean. "

2.05pm Toss: Delayed, owing to some light drizzle in the air. Some covers are on. BTW, some good news for fans of West Indian cricket, there's a new team in the WCPL: Jamaican Empress. Cool name right?

Udam: "Jamaican express would be great tho with their bolt-like athletes' arsenal"

Sam: "The slight drizzle is subtle foreshadowing for this match's outcome "

Apart from trying to save the series, West Indies also need victories to climb up their 10th place in the ICC ODI rankings, otherwise they'll miss out on "direct" qualification. They have ODIs against New Zealand and India coming after this in this particular format, which won't be easy games either.

1.50pm Today's weather forecast promises cloudy weather for sure. Rain is expected on occasions, across the day, but here's our fingers crossed hoping for some competitive action.

Danush: "After years of being a frustrated fan just waiting for us to find that limelight again, watching Sri Lanka clinch a series win away from home feels absolutely incredible. "

1.40pm local Hello everyone, welcome to the third ODI between West Indies and Sri Lanka. We're in Kingston in Jamaica again, hoping for this game to happen after the second ODI over here got washed out. Sri Lanka are chasing their first ODI series win in the Caribbean since 2003. West Indies want to save this home series. Today, you've got Sreshth Shah and Madushka Balasuriya for company.
