That concludes our coverage for today. Thank you for tuning in, as always. This is Rashad Mahbub, signing off on behalf of Himanshu Agrawal and Annayya Goudar. Goodbye!
Thomas Rew: "I think that was a special innings from Mayes; being able to watch that was unbelievable. The partnership he had with Moores was special too, so I'm really happy for both of them. [Discussion about setting the target score] We don't really like to set too many targets. We just go out there, bat, and see where we are at the end of the day. Once Mayes gets going, he's happy to just keep that same tempo and target the short boundary like he did today. It was unbelievable. [Bowling unit] Definitely. A big thing for us is keeping spells short and sweet; it saves energy and ensures the bowlers have overs left for the death. We have so many good bowlers that I can turn to them whenever I need, and they're always ready. It's a great resource to have. [Expectations in Bulawayo] We played India down there, so we've had a bit of practice. We'll head down a couple of days early for some nets to get used to the conditions. Hopefully, we can just keep taking this momentum through to the Super Sixes and see how far we can go."
Thomas Knight: "Obviously, it was a disappointing day. I think we missed the mark with the ball and in the field at times, and we certainly got punished. That was an unbelievable, outstanding innings from Ben Mayes. Then with the bat, we fell way short of our goal. We aimed for around 250 to keep us in the picture for the net run rate, but we didn't get there. Overall, it's a very disappointing day. [Watching Mayes and Moores batting] It's a nightmare [from the opposition's point of view]. It was an unbelievable innings from Mayes, and Moores was outstanding right at the top. All we were trying to do was go back to what we know and bowl our best ball as often as we can. We probably didn't do that frequently enough, and every time we missed, they punished us. It was a steep learning curve today. [Qualification] It is obviously out of our hands now. We had an opportunity today, not necessarily to seal our place, but to put a better foot forward, and we didn't take it. We will watch on tomorrow and see what happens. There are definitely positives: some good spells with the ball and some good periods with the bat. It's not all doom and gloom, but it's certainly more negative than we'd like at the moment. [Key improvements] Just a bit of consistency, especially with the ball. We bowled our best deliveries at times today, but not for long enough. With the bat, similar to the Pakistan game, we just need someone to go big and make those partnerships longer and more substantial."
Player of the Match, Ben Mayes: "I'm feeling very positive, but I certainly didn't expect that when I woke up this morning. Not too many other people did either! It was good; I was helped out a lot by Moores, who batted brilliantly up top. Tom Rew and Caleb chipped in at the end as well, so it was a great all-round team performance. [Batting form] I just tried to train as much as possible over the Christmas holiday when I could get away from school. No excuses, really. This is the best tournament I've played in, so I'm just using that as motivation. [Targeting the leg-side boundary] We actually identified that in the first game as a team. We've been looking to target bowlers from this end with the wind, which is so strong here in Zimbabwe. We were playing on the same wicket as the Zimbabwe game with a very short boundary, so I've been trying to do that all three games. [Playing with Hampshire] It has been crucial in helping me stay patient. A lot of the older lads at Hampshire have been very influential in my development as a cricketer, and it has really helped me."
5:05 pm England extended their unbeaten streak in the tournament with a third consecutive crushing victory. Scotland had a strong start with a 38-run opening stand, but their momentum reversed abruptly when they lost both set openers in back to back deliveries. The English spinners then took complete control, utilizing sharp turn and extra bounce to dry up the boundaries. Chaplin appeared at ease playing the pull and reverse sweep, but his knock ended in the 25th over when he holed out to mid-on off Falconer. Scotland failed to establish any consistent rhythm with the bat, losing wickets in clusters during the middle overs. There were some late contributions from the lower order as Carter and Woodhouse put on a 41-run stand. Carter eventually departed for 34 runs, trapped in front while attempting a sweep. Ramsay and Woodhouse added useful runs toward the end, but the target simply proved too much. England's disciplined attack saw seven bowlers used, with six of them entering the wickets column, led by Falconer with three and supported by Lumsden and Albert with two apiece. Post-match presentations are coming up next, though there is little doubt about who will be named Player of the Match after today's historic performance.
