We now know three of the four semifinalists: England have qualified from Group 2, while Australia and Afghanistan move forward from Group 1. All eyes are now on that final spot, which will be decided on February 1st during the high-stakes clash between India and Pakistan. However, the action doesn't stop there. Tomorrow, the hosts Zimbabwe take on Bangladesh, and we hope you'll join us for that one. Thank you for staying with us today; your feedback has been incredibly encouraging. We look forward to having you with us again tomorrow. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub, signing off on behalf of Danyal Rasool and Chandan Duorah. Goodnight and goodbye.
Thomas Rew: "It was a great result for us. I'm really proud of how we stuck at it with the bat; Caleb and Mayes in particular really grinded on a tough wicket. To get up to that total put us in a good place at halftime, and the way the seamers bowled after that was an incredible performance all around. [Challenges on this particular pitch] The bounce was just so inconsistent, up and down, and there was a bit of spin too, especially when the ball was slower. The way the boys dealt with that was incredible. Then, we used the bounce to our advantage by hitting hard lengths and targeting the top of off-stump for as long as possible. [Adjustments] I think it comes from the whole group. We all adapt quickly, and that's the key when playing on different wickets. We knew 300 wasn't a realistic score; it was more like 230 or 240, and that's what we reached. I'm proud of the effort from the boys. [Lumsden] Incredible. He's been great all tournament. He's bowled quick and stayed aggressive, which is exactly what we ask of him. Having that kind of firepower in the squad is a massive asset. [Through to semifinal] It's nice to win today and know we're through. We'll still be watching the games on Sunday, but we are really looking forward to that semifinal."
Tom Jones: "We thought the pitch would play consistently all day, as it usually improves throughout the game based on what we've seen in the tournament. However, it seemed to break up a bit, becoming tricky with up-and-down bounce. [Target] We were really proud of the bowling effort; we asked the bowlers to go to another level, and they did. We were confident, but the story of our campaign has been not putting it all together for long periods. [Batting unit struggle] There is a lot of talent in this group, but we haven't quite mastered the timing of when to apply pressure and when to absorb it to take the game deep. We've been a bit guilty of that at times. We aren't happy with how the campaign went, but there are so many learnings to take away. Many guys in that dressing room have long careers ahead of them, and hopefully, they can use what they've learned over the last month. [Time in Zimbabwe] It's been amazing. We've loved it; it's a great country."
Player of the Match, Manny Lumsden: "It's a lovely feeling. It feels amazing to contribute to a win and get five wickets on the board. [Bowling strategy] I just tried to keep the stumps in play with the variable bounce. As you saw with the last couple of wickets, the ball was staying low. It was about staying disciplined with my line and length to eventually get the reward. [Enforcer role] Yeah, that comes quite naturally to me. I've been doing that for a while back at home as well, so the role fits my game perfectly. [Reaching Semifinal] It feels amazing to have won all five games we've played. All the boys have contributed really well throughout the group stage and the Super Sixes. It's been a great team performance and I'm absolutely chuffed. Everyone in our team is really tight and close, which is a very good thing. The captain lets you know early on when you're bowling so you can get loose and try to affect the game from those first few balls."
4:38 pm England booked their place in the semifinals in emphatic fashion, extending their unbeaten run with another dominating performance. New Zealand were immediately on the back foot in the chase, losing opener Mann in just the second over. Jones and Bogue attempted to rebuild, but the pressure never really lifted, and Bogue's edge through to the keeper in the eighth over left the Kiwis two down early. Things went from difficult to daunting when Lumsden struck again in the same over, forcing an outside edge from the New Zealand captain. With the top order batters gone inside ten overs, New Zealand were left chasing the game rather than the target. There was a brief lift through a 48-run stand between Reddy and Samson, which hinted at a possible fightback. Reddy, in particular, looked composed before falling for 47, undone by a sharp short ball from Green that found the fielder at short midwicket. That dismissal proved decisive. From there, wickets fell regularly as England tightened the screws. Although there were a few spirited contributions from the lower middle order but the damage had already been done. Lumsden returned to mop up the innings, removing the set batters Sandhu and Burns in the same over before finishing off the tail. He ended with a superb five-wicket haul, taking his tournament tally to 13 and moving clear at the top of the wicket charts. While this defeat brings New Zealand's campaign to an end, there were signs of progress, particularly in their bowling and fielding. For a young side, this tournament has offered valuable lessons, and they'll leave with plenty to reflect on as they take their next steps in the professional game. Post Match presentation is coming up next.
