That wraps up all the action from us today. India and England, the two unbeaten sides, will lock horns in the Grand Finale on February 6 in Harare. Do join us for what promises to be a cracking contest. Until then, this is Rashad Mahbub signing off on behalf of Ashish Pant, Ranjith P, and Harshith Gowda. Go well!
Kasinathan: "Well played Afganistan. Spare a thought for the two centurions. It is their catching that let them down. "
Tim Burton: "What a match. All credit goes to the Afghan team. Fantastic performance. Hopefully England will win the final."
Ayush Mhatre: "Afghanistan started very well with the bat, and while our bowlers did well in the middle overs, they really got away from us in the final ten. Our discussion was simple: just play our natural game. The wicket was playing beautifully, a real flat wicket, so we knew if we played naturally, it would be a manageable total. [Sooryavanshi] He played a major role in the chase. Scoring 90 runs in the first 10 overs released all the pressure, making it much easier for the rest of us to build the innings. [George] He is a classy, fabulous batsman. He didn't have many big scores leading into this, but he was always batting well in the nets. We were confident that if he played his natural game, he would come good. He anchored the innings perfectly. [Conditions here] The conditions at Harare Sports Club are excellent. The boys are in a good rhythm, and we intend to keep things simple and stay focused on the field. [Message to the fans] Just keep supporting us; your support is great for our morale. We will give 110% on the field and do our absolute best to win that match. [Recovery time before the Final] Yes, it's enough. We are used to these conditions and have played enough cricket back in India, where we often play every other day. We'll recover well and be ready."
Mahboob Khan: "It was a very good total, but we missed two catches in the first powerplay. The bowlers did not hit their lengths, and that is why we lost the match. The batting today was very good. To get 310 is a very big total, but today was just a bad day for us because we lost the match. Faisal is a very good player and the best scorer in the tournament. Niazai also batted well. Inshallah, Faisal is a future star; he works very hard and will be a big part of the future of cricket. The wicket was good for batting in the morning and stayed good in the second innings. The total was big for the bowlers to defend, but today was just part of the game. [Leading the team] I am very happy with how we played. We qualified for the next rounds and fought hard to reach the semi-final. I am proud of that."
hamza: "Vaibhav was dropped on 22 and went to 68 at a strike rate over 200. Had that catch been taken, those runs get pushed back into the chase, momentum stalls, and India could well have been looking at something like 160-170 to get from the last 20 overs instead of being this comfortable" Well, catches win matches, and dropped ones do the opposite.
Player of the Match, Aaron George: "[First thought after scoring the century] I was very grateful for the opportunity, especially in such a crucial game for the team. I'm happy I could contribute. [Converting to a big score] I knew I was batting well, so the conversion definitely mattered. I'm glad I trusted the process and kept believing in my game. [Plenty of confidence before the Final] Definitely. Everyone played to their full potential, and I'm very happy to see our top order doing so well. We are looking forward to the big final."
4:50 pm The five-time champions march into the final in dominant fashion, while Afghanistan's campaign ends in heartbreak. India came out with guns blazing, finding boundaries all over the ground and completely neutralizing the Afghan bowling attack. Niazai dropped Sooryavanshi at the backward point when he was on 22, and that mistake proved incredibly costly; the young prodigy went on to reach his fifty in just 24 balls. George was also handed a life when Zadran put down a dolly at mid-on on 20 runs. Both drops proved to be costly later on. India raced to 91/1 in the first powerplay. The only wicket to fall was Sooryavanshi, who fell victim to the short ball once again, holing out to mid-wicket for a blistering 68 off 33 balls. George and Mhatre then kept the run fest going, never allowing the bowlers to settle as both reached their half-centuries. Mhatre eventually departed for 62 in the 27th over after miscuing a flick to deep mid-wicket. George then anchored the chase alongside Malhotra, guiding India toward the finish line. He played some gorgeous strokes on his way to a brilliant century off 95 balls, eventually getting out for 115. Afghanistan's cause wasn't helped by misfields, dropped catches, and missed run-out opportunities. However, Afghanistan can hold their heads high. They've played some splendid cricket, providing many moments for these youngsters to cherish in the years to come. Take a bow, Afghanistan. As the players, coaches, and officials share handshakes on the field, stay tuned for the post-match presentation coming up shortly.
