Australia's Jack Edwards has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after picking up a foot injury.
The 25-year-old seam-bowling allrounder was signed up by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 3 crore (US$333,000 approx.) at the last auction and would have made his IPL debut this season, which will have to wait now. He was the only uncapped overseas player to be signed up at the 2025 auction.
Edwards had a strong BBL 2025-26 season, taking 19 wickets and scoring 133 runs in 13 games for Sydney Sixers. He made his international debut four days after Sixers lost the BBL final to Perth Scorchers in a T20I against Pakistan in Perth, but it wasn't a memorable outing: none for 25 from two overs and 5 from six balls. He has played two Sheffield Shield games for New South Wales, his state team, since then, the last of those fixtures getting over only on Thursday.
This is an additional blow for SRH, who will be without regular captain Pat Cummins for the start of the season as he recovers from a lumbar stress issue. Ishan Kishan will take over as captain in Cummins' absence.
Edwards' injury is an extension to the list of injuries to Australian fast bowlers. Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Ellis, apart from Cummins, are also missing the IPL either partially or completely owing to injuries.
SRH will take part in the season opener on March 28 in Bengaluru, where they face off against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
