It was looking like 2025 would be a lost season for the Houston Texans after an 0-3 start, which dropped their playoff chances to just 13% according to ESPN Analytics. However, Houston rallied to win 12 of the next 14 games to become the first team to make the playoffs after starting 0-3 since 2018 (also the Texans).
The Texans ended the regular season on a nine-game winning streak, which included four wins as underdogs, over the Bills, Colts, Chiefs and Chargers. That propped Houston over its win total of 9.5, putting the Texans over their win total in all three seasons under DeMeco Ryans. Their late-season run wasn't enough to beat the Jaguars for AFC South supremacy, but the Texans enter 2026 as division favorites for a third straight season. -- Mackenzie Kraemer

2026 outlook: Defense dominates, Stroud rebounds
The Texans defense is nasty. Ryans has a top-tier unit that can rush the passer at an accelerated rate, while the back seven features second-level speed, sticky coverage corners and range over the top. Ball hawks. And Houston allowed just 17.4 PPG in 2025 (second fewest).
But can the offense -- and quarterback C.J. Stroud, in particular -- control tempo and win early downs? I'm saying they can, based on the offseason moves. The Texans rebuilt their offensive front, plus they traded for running back David Montgomery. Look for Stroud to have a big year on an offense that stays on schedule. -- Matt Bowen
Best bet: Super Bowl winner (18-1)
Let's go big in the summer and bet Houston to win the Bowl. With Montgomery and that offensive line, Houston will control tempo on the ground. And that keeps Stroud in much more manageable situations in a system that mirrors both the run and pass game. Create play-action and vertical throws here, with a defense that can absolutely close out football games. Stroud stays in the MVP discussion with a Texans roster built to make a title run. And I really like the odds at 18-1 on this championship bet. -- Bowen
