What you need to know for Wednesday
After a stunning double-overtime Game 1 victory by San Antonio in Oklahoma City, the Thunder look to even things up -- and slow down Victor Wembanyama -- on Wednesday night.
But it won't be easy. Wemby's 41 points, 24 rebounds and 3 blocks in the series opener will be talked about for years to come.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, fresh off of being named the regular season MVP, was largely quiet down the stretch of Game 1 but finished with 24 points, 12 assists and 5 steals.
Let's dig further into the matchups to identify some betting angles and DFS value picks for tonight's action.
Dre's bets for Wednesday
Victor Wembanyama over 13.5 rebounds (-132): Wembanyama turned in one of the more memorable games in NBA history in Game 1, dropping 41 points to lead his team to a win. But the points may have overshadowed his dominance on the glass, when the latter may be the more reliable result. Wemby grabbed 24 rebounds in Game 1. Going back to the first round, Wemby has grabbed at least 14 rebounds in six of his last eight games. But the two he didn't hit the mark were the game against the Timberwolves where he got ejected in the first half, and the closeout game in which the Spurs won by 30 and Wemby only played 27 minutes. The Thunder are guarding him with smaller players, so Wemby should continue to dominate the glass.
Jalen Williams over 18.5 points (-101): Williams returned from injury and dropped 26 points in Game 1. Some of his scoring is a function of the way the Spurs defense is keying on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Spurs' focus on SGA opened up scoring opportunities for both Williams and Alex Caruso, and because the Spurs were able to win they probably keep the same strategy for Game 2. Going back to the games he played before injury, Williams has scored at least 19 points in every playoffs game he has played this season.
Top Daily Fantasy Values of the Day
By Eric Moody
$8,100+ salaries
Victor Wembanyama, C, San Antonio Spurs ($12,600): Wembanyama delivered an epic performance in Game 1, finishing with 41 points, 24 rebounds and three blocks across 49 minutes in an overtime thriller. The Thunder may adjust by having Isaiah Hartenstein or Chet Holmgren guard him instead of Alex Caruso, but Wembanyama is clearly no ordinary center. He leads the Spurs this postseason with a 27.2% usage rate, and that trend should continue in Game 2.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, PG, Oklahoma City Thunder ($10,600): Gilgeous-Alexander struggled by his standards in Game 1, finishing with 24 points and 12 assists while shooting a dismal 30.4% from the field. The Spurs threw a barrage of defenders at him, including Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper and Carter Bryant. San Antonio is a stout defensive team, but with the Thunder down 0-1, I expect SGA to bounce back in Game 2. He has a 31.5% usage rate this postseason, so the volume should be there.
$6,100-$8,000 salaries
Dylan Harper, PG/SG, San Antonio Spurs ($7,000): Harper was superb in Game 1, finishing with 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals. With De'Aaron Fox questionable, Harper could be relied on again in Game 2. He is an excellent DFS option regardless of Fox's availability because of his role in the Spurs' rotation. The rookie also benefits from not having to carry the offense, allowing him to create within the flow of a deep San Antonio team.
