Saint Joseph's knocks off Siena 78-66
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Langston Galloway scored 27 points, Ronald Roberts added 19, and Saint Joseph's beat Siena 78-66 in a consolation round game Friday night at the Old Spice Classic.
Galloway, with 16 points, was among three Saint Joseph's (3-2) players scoring in double-digits as the Hawks took a commanding 46-26 halftime lead.
St. Joseph's was coming off an 82-65 loss to LSU Thursday night in which Galloway was held to eight points.
"I think tonight, I just relaxed," Galloway said. "(Thursday), I was trying to win so bad for my team and help them win, and it definitely hurt us in the long run."
Lavon Long had 13 points for Siena (2-6), which was beaten by No. 21 Memphis 87-60 on Thursday.
"We came out flat in the first half," Siena coach Jimmy Patsos said. "That's the danger of playing Memphis. It can take a lot out of you whether we'd played good or not against Memphis. It took a lot out of us emotionally.
"This just shows you how far we have to go, but it's better than practice."
Saint Joseph's held a 14-1 advantage 5 minutes into the game and led by as many as 24 during the opening 20 minutes.
A pair of free throws by Rob Poole helped Siena close to within 46-33 early in the second half. He finished with 12 points.
Saint Joseph's was outscored 40-32 in the second half.
"Back-to back days, the next time you do it is the Atlantic 10 tournament," Saint Joseph's coach Phil Martelli said. "You can't have a half like that in the Atlantic 10 tournament and believe you're to going to advance."
Galloway made six 3-pointers to move past Darrin Govens (244) into second place on Saint Joseph's career list with 249. His fifth triple made it 67-48 with 7 minutes left.
