News: 4 days agoDavis carried the ball three times for 21 yards and caught all four of his targets for 32 yards in Saturday's 29-14 preseason win over the Panthers.
Spin: James Cook got the start in the backfield during the Bills' preseason opener and played the whole first quarter, but Davis was the next RB into the game and had a very productive day. Davis' numbers as a pass-catcher were surprising considering that the third-year back has just 27 career catches in 34 regular-season contests, but new offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael has suggested that Cook could see more usage as a receiver in 2026, and Davis might benefit from that wrinkle in the scheme as well when he's on the field.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Davis is back as the primary insurance option behind Bills' feature back James Cook III. The 2024 fourth-round pick is one of the most valuable backups in fantasy, but flies a bit under the radar due to a very small game-day role when Cook and passing-down specialist Ty Johnson are both healthy. That's been the scenario most of the last two seasons, but we've seen Davis play more than half of Buffalo's snaps in three games. During those outings, Davis averaged 21.0 touches, 130.3 yards and 19.4 fantasy points per game. The 26-year-old has no standalone value, but he'll leap into the RB2 mix should Cook miss time, which makes him worth stashing on the end of your bench.
