Outside linebacker Malcolm Smith, the Super Bowl XLVIII MVP for the Seattle Seahawks, has reached a contract agreement with the Oakland Raiders, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The move reunites Smith with Oakland defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. Norton was the linebackers coach at Seattle but left the Seahawks in February to take over the Oakland defense.
Smith, 25, played for Seattle coach Pete Carroll at USC before Carroll and the Seahawks drafted him in 2011 as a seventh-round compensatory pick.
Smith never has been a full-time starter, but he rose to national prominence in the 2013 season when he won the MVP award in the Super Bowl after returning an interception 69 yards for a touchdown against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
That play came two weeks after he helped preserve a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game when he intercepted the pass in the end zone that Richard Sherman deflected.
Smith (6-foot, 225 pounds) played in 14 regular-season games in 2014 and all three playoff games, starting five games as an outside linebacker.
Also, former Buffalo Bills TE Lee Smith is joining the Raiders on a three-year deal worth over $9 million, sources told ESPN's Adam Caplan.
The four-year veteran has 20 career receptions and three touchdowns.
