DeAndre Levy's season officially over after placement on IR

The Detroit Lions placed linebacker DeAndre Levy on season-ending injured reserve after he played only one half of football.

Levy initially missed the first four games of the season with a hip injury he suffered during a practice in the preseason. He played less than a half in Week 5 against Arizona before reinjuring the hip.

It forced the linebacker to have surgery, and the Lions were waiting to see how he was healing from the surgery before making a final decision on his status for the rest of the season. Now, it's clear that it is over -- especially with the Lions at 1-7 and realistically out of the playoff race.

The 28-year-old Levy signed a four-year extension in the preseason after he led the league in solo tackles (117) in 2014 and was tied for second in the NFL with six interceptions in 2013.

In 2015, he played 17 snaps without making a tackle.

The Lions signed journeyman linebacker James-Michael Johnson to take his place.
