What does Tyler Biadasz's injury mean for Chargers' season? (1:27)

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday placed Tyler Biadasz on season-ending injured reserve after the center suffered damage to his ACL and additional injuries to his left knee during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers last week.

Biadasz went down after 49ers defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez fell into Biadasz's leg during an 11-on-11 drill. Biadasz remained on the ground for nearly five minutes while being attended to by trainers before he was helped onto a medical cart.

Biadasz, 28, played for the Washington Commanders last season and signed with the Chargers in March. He was the biggest piece of an interior offensive line overhaul by general manager Joe Hortiz, signing a three-year contract worth up to $30 million in the offseason.

He started 31 games over the past two seasons for Washington before he was released in February in a cost-cutting move. The Dallas Cowboys selected Biadasz in the fourth round of the 2020 draft, and he started all 49 games he played for Dallas. He made his lone Pro Bowl following the 2022 season.

With Biadasz out, rookie Jake Slaughter will be the Chargers' starting center. A second-round pick, Slaughter played exclusively at center at Florida, but the Chargers had primarily been using him at left guard during training camp.

"The mind is sharp from snap, pre-snap, snap to whistle," coach Jim Harbaugh said of Slaughter. "The way he understands the position, it's really good."
