Mathieu Perreault injured, exits game

CHICAGO -- Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault suffered an upper-body injury in Friday's 4-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Perreault fell to the ice after being cross-checked by Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo with 9.5 seconds remaining in the second period. Perreault remained on the ice for some time and was holding his left arm as he departed for the locker room. The Jets announced he would not return.

Jets coach Paul Maurice did not provide an update on the injury after the game, just that Perreault would be examined Saturday.

Regarding Carcillo's hit on the Jets forward, Maurice said, "I saw it on the video. It was a vicious crosscheck to an unsuspecting player."

When asked whether the hit deserved discipline, Maurice said, "I'll leave that to the league."

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville had no comment on the hit.

Perreault has 15 goals and 14 assists in 45 games this season. He had recently scored four goals in a game and had six goals in the past five games prior to Friday.
