The California Redwoods erupted offensively at home to defeat the Denver Outlaws 18-11 on Sunday at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania, clinching a playoff spot in the final game of the Premier Lacrosse League regular season. Ryder Garnsey and Andrew McAdorey powered the Redwoods' attack, each finishing with five points.
Garnsey scored four goals and added an assist, while McAdorey tallied a 2-point goal, two 1-point goals and an assist. The offensive support was widespread for California (6-6), as Aidan Danenza dished out a game-high four assists, and Dylan Molloy and Finn Thomson scored hat tricks with three goals apiece. Jared Conners also contributed a 2-point goal. In goal, starter Dillon Ward made seven saves before Ryan Croddick came on in relief and stopped five shots.
The short-handed Outlaws were led by Logan Wisnauskas, who posted three goals and an assist. Justin Anderson had two goals, including a 2-pointer, and Dalton Young chipped in with a goal and two assists for Denver (6-6). Graham Bundy also connected on a 2-point goal. Goaltenders Logan McNaney and Owen McElroy split time in net, finishing with six and five saves, respectively.
Denver held a 3-2 lead after the first quarter, but California seized control of the game by outscoring the Outlaws 12-4 over the second and third quarters. The victory allows the Redwoods to secure a playoff berth and leapfrog the Outlaws for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The Outlaws played without several key starters due to injury, including their entire starting close defense.
