West Brom have said they are "devastated" following the death of former midfielder Quevin Castro, aged 25.
Castro, who made two senior appearances for the Baggies during a two-year spell at The Hawthorns, collapsed during a friendly match between his current club, third-tier Portuguese side Real Sport Clube, and Estrela da Amadora on Saturday and later died in hospital.
West Brom said: "West Brom are devastated to learn of the untimely passing of Quevin Castro, aged just 25.
"Albion will pay tribute to Quevin on Sunday, with a period of applause in the 25th minute of the fixture against Burnley. James Morrison's men will also wear black armbands."
The club added: "The thoughts of everyone at Albion are with Quevin's loved ones at this desperately sad time."
Quevin made his first-team debut for the Baggies against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in 2021 and made one league appearance for them the following February.
He had loan spells at Burton, Notts County and Gateshead before joining York in the summer of 2023 and, after making 15 appearances in total for the Minstermen, he returned to Portugal.
Real Sport Clube's opponents on Saturday, Estrela da Amadora, said in a statement: "Estrela da Amadora hereby express their deepest sorrow for the passing of Quevin Castro, player for Real Massama [Real Sport Clube].
"At this moment of profound sadness, Estrela da Amadora extend their most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Quevin Castro, as well as to the entire Real Massama structure.
"Our thoughts are with all those close to him. Rest in peace, Quevin."
