Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha has signed for Benfica.
The 31-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Tottenham, has returned to his native Portugal on a permanent deal.
He was linked with a return to the Premier League this season, with Aston Villa and Newcastle considering a move, but he is heading back to Lisbon, where he began his career across the city at Sporting.
Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl said on the club's website: "We've discussed João Palhinha's situation openly with him and found a solution that we could all agree on.
"He's decided to continue his career in his home country. We thank him for his time at FC Bayern and wish him all the best for the future."
Palhinha signed at the Allianz Arena in the summer of 2024 after a big-money move from Fulham, but he made just 25 appearances in his first season in Germany.
He spent last season on loan at Spurs, proving pivotal in the final few weeks of the season as the London club avoided relegation on the final day of the season.
