Danny Welbeck scored on his Chelsea debut to help his new side to a comfortable 2-0 victory over Luton Town in the Carabao Cup second round on Thursday evening.
The west London side -- who were without Enzo Fernández amid rumours of a move to Manchester City -- made it two wins from two under new manager Xabi Alonso, with Hakeem Odoffin's own goal making sure of their safe passage to the next round.
The result means they will play their third round tie at home to Leeds United, who themselves beat Nottingham Forest in their own second round match.
It will be the first time they have faced the Yorkshire side in the Carabao Cup for the first time since 2012, when they won 5-1 in the quarterfinals.
In Monday night's victory over Fulham, Cole Palmer looked all the way back to his very best, starting when he provided a delicate assist for João Pedro to open the scoring with 35 seconds.
After Josh King had equalised, Palmer was involved again when he played in Maxence Lacroix, who squared the ball for Morgan Rogers to score his first goal for the club.
Palmer then got on the scoresheet himself, passing the ball between Bernd Leno's legs to double Chelsea's advantage, before Gonzalo García's header ensured a nervy finish for the visitors.
After a difficult few years, Luton themselves have also made a good start to the season, despite the defeat to Chelsea.
They beat Gillingham 3-0 in the first round of the Carabao Cup, before claiming a dramatic 4-3 victory at Reading to begin their League One Campaign, with Gideon Kodua scoring the winner in the seventh minute of second-half stoppage time.
Their most recent result before Thursday night was a 2-2 draw at home to Notts County on Saturday.
