Alex Eala is returning home, bringing a year of history with her.
The Filipina tennis star will headline Alex Eala Live: Game. Set. Celebrate at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on Dec. 8.
Hosted by Tatler Philippines, the event will feature a headline match between Eala and Indonesia's Janice Tjen, with both players looking to be part of another potential milestone for Asian tennis.
The event is targeting a crowd of more than 52,000 fans inside the massive venue, which could break the current attendance record for a tennis match.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal set the mark in Cape Town, where they played in front of 51,954 spectators.
Beyond the headline contest, the event will feature matches involving up-and-coming Filipino tennis players and celebrities.
Fans will also be treated to activities inside and outside the venue.
The event is envisioned as a celebration of Eala's rise and the sport's growing following in the Philippines.
"Every time I play abroad, I carry the Philippines with me," Eala said in a statement.
"To come home and play in front of our fans will be incredibly special.
"I want this to be a day where we celebrate our love for tennis, our culture and the young players who will take the sport forward.
"And if all of us come together, maybe we can make a little history too."
Eala returns home after a landmark season that saw her claim her first WTA 500 title, the Mubadala DC Open in Washington DC, and make a breakthrough run at Wimbledon.
Her Washington triumph propelled her into the world's top 20, while her Wimbledon campaign saw her become the first Filipino in the Open Era to reach the fourth round at the All England Club.
Eala is about to compete in her second US Open at Flushing Meadows before turning her attention to the Asian swing, including tournaments in Singapore, China and Japan.
