TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals signed a football celebrity to their practice squad.
Tight end Brandon Bostick is more notorious than famous for botching an onside kick late in the fourth quarter of last year’s NFC Championship Game with the Green Bay Packers. With the Packers leading 19-14 with about 2:09 left in the fourth quarter, Bostick mishandled an onside kick that he wasn’t supposed to field and the Seahawks recovered. Seattle went on to win and earn a spot in Super Bowl XLIX, where it lost to New England.
Bostick was one of 10 players Arizona announced on its practice squad Monday.
The Cardinals re-signed cornerback Cariel Brooks, tackle Rob Crisp, linebacker Gabe Martin, guard Antoine McClain, wide receiver Jaxon Shipley and running back Kerwynn Williams, while adding Bostick, cornerbacks Leon McFadden and Robert Nelson, and defensive end Lawrence Okoye.
Bostick was on the Packers for his first three seasons in the NFL before getting cut in February. He was claimed by the Minnesota Vikings but released on Aug. 30. After spending his rookie season on the practice squad, Bostick has played in 24 games the last two years, catching nine passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns over that span.
After joining the 49ers in November of last season, McFadden played in seven games and had five tackles. Nelson, an ASU product, played in seven games with the Browns last year.
Okoye, who spent 2014 on the 49ers practice squad, was a British Olympian and a record holder in the discus. He competed in the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London before his football career started. He’s also a former rugby player who never played football before 2013, when he was initially signed by San Francisco.
