Panthers' unrestricted free agents: No. 3, Dockery

Continuing my look at the top-10 unrestricted free agents for the Carolina Panthers is a player that was cut at the end of training camp last year.

Next up: No. 3, CB James Dockery

Reason to re-sign: Perhaps it’s a reach to rank him this high, but it says something about the caliber of Carolina’s unrestricted free agents and what the team might consider keeping. I put him here because he has the build (6-foot-1, 185 pounds) the Panthers want at cornerback, and he won’t cost much to re-sign. He can add depth to the secondary -- he was the first player re-signed after injuries to Josh Norman and Bene Benwikere -- and play special teams.

Reason not to re-sign: After four seasons on and off Carolina’s roster the staff knows what it is getting. For a team looking to upgrade the secondary, that might not be enough.

Prediction: Not a very sexy pick to re-sign, but one that could be made to fill out the roster for offseason workouts and possibly training camp. The team already has invested four years in him, so why not?
